Influencer marketing for small businesses in Pakistan: a starter plan
By the Wasta team, Karachi · Updated · 8 min read
The short version
Start small and measurable. Pick one goal (bookings, orders or footfall), set aside a test budget such as Rs 20,000, and spend it on two to four nano or micro creators whose audiences live where your customers are. Give each creator a unique discount code, compare the results after two weeks, and put your next budget behind the creators who actually brought customers.
- One campaign, one goal.
- Audience in your city beats audience size.
- A unique code or link per creator is how you know what worked.
- Test, compare, rebook the winners.
Is influencer marketing worth it for a small business?
It can be, when your customers are on Instagram and your product looks good on camera: food, fashion, beauty, fitness, home decor and local services. It works less well for things people do not discover through social media. The test below is cheap enough to try once properly before you decide.
Step 1: choose one goal
- Bookings or footfall: restaurants, cafes, salons, gyms, clinics.
- Orders: online stores and home businesses.
- Installs or sign ups: apps and services.
- Awareness: a launch, a new branch or a new menu.
One goal per campaign keeps the brief clear and makes the results easy to read.
Step 2: set a test budget
| Test budget | What it can buy (indicative) |
|---|---|
| Rs 10,000 to 15,000 | Barter plus small fees for three to five nano creators, or one micro creator reel |
| Rs 20,000 | One micro creator reel, or reels from two to five nano creators |
| Rs 50,000 | One mid tier reel, or two to four micro creator reels with stories |

Step 3: pick the right creators
- Audience in your city beats audience size.
- Check engagement and read the comments. See how to spot fake followers.
- Look at their past sponsored posts. Would you be happy with that style for your brand?
- Prefer creators who already like your category. Their content will feel natural.
Step 4: write a clear brief
- 1What to show: the dish, the service, the store, the product in use.
- 2The one thing you want people to remember.
- 3The offer, and the discount code for that creator.
- 4Deadline and posting date.
- 5Dos and don'ts: prices, competitor names, health or result claims.
On Wasta, the campaign form asks for exactly this, and creators apply against it with their own rate. Post your first campaign.
Step 5: track the results
- A unique discount code per creator, such as BRUNCH10 for one and CAFE10 for another.
- For online stores, a tracked link per creator so your analytics show the source.
- For a week, ask every new customer how they heard about you.
- Ask creators for their reach, views, saves and the number of messages they received.
Step 6: repeat what works
After two weeks, work out the cost per booking or order for each creator. Rebook the ones who delivered, drop the rest, and try one new creator each round. Over a few rounds, most businesses end up with a small group of creators who bring real customers, and a regular relationship with them costs less than starting over every time.
Questions people ask
How much should a small business spend on influencers in Pakistan?
Start with a test budget you can afford to learn from, such as Rs 15,000 to 25,000, split across a few nano or micro creators. Increase it only after you see which creators bring orders or bookings.
Should a local business use nano, micro or bigger creators?
For local reach, nano and micro creators with audiences in your city are usually the best value. Bigger creators make sense for launches that need wide awareness.
How do I measure influencer marketing results?
Give every creator a unique discount code or link, ask new customers where they heard of you, and compare the cost per result across creators.
Do I need an agency for influencer marketing?
Not for a first campaign. With a clear brief and verified creators you can run it yourself. Agencies help when you run many campaigns at once or need strategy and production.
