How to become a UGC creator in Pakistan

By the Wasta team, Karachi · Updated · 7 min read

The short version

A UGC creator makes short videos and photos that a brand posts on its own pages or runs as ads, instead of the creator posting them to their followers. Because the brand brings the audience, follower count matters much less than skill: clear product demos, unboxings, testimonials and strong hooks. In Pakistan UGC work is mostly freelance and paid per video, with usage rights priced on top. Build a small portfolio, pitch local brands and agencies, and get the rights in writing.

  • UGC is content for the brand's own pages and ads, not for your followers.
  • Follower count matters less than hooks, light, sound and editing.
  • Price per video, then add usage rights, extra hooks and raw footage as separate lines.
  • Most UGC work in Pakistan is freelance, not a salaried job.
  • Always agree in writing where, for how long and in which ads the brand may use your video.

What is a UGC creator, and how is it different from an influencer?

UGC stands for user generated content: videos and photos that look like they were made by a real customer rather than a studio. A UGC creator is paid to make that kind of content for a brand. The big difference from an influencer post is who publishes it.

QuestionInfluencer postUGC video
Who posts it?The creator, on their own accountThe brand, on its pages or in ads
What does the brand pay for?Your content and your audience's attentionYour content and the right to use it
Does follower count matter?Yes, along with engagementMuch less: the brand brings the audience
What sets the price?Tier, engagement, niche, usage rightsEffort, edits, number of hooks, usage rights

This is why UGC suits newer creators. Someone with 800 followers who films a clean, honest product demo with a strong first three seconds can be worth more to a brand's ad account than a big account with average content.

What do brands in Pakistan want from UGC creators?

  • Product demos. The product in use: a blender making lassi, a serum going on, a phone case surviving a drop.
  • Unboxings. First reactions and a close look at the packaging, especially for online stores that sell through Instagram and WhatsApp.
  • Testimonials. Talking to camera the way a customer would: the problem, what you tried, what changed. Honest and specific, never scripted to sound like an ad.
  • Hooks. The first two or three seconds that stop the scroll. Brands often ask for several hook versions of one video to test in ads.
  • How to and before and after videos. Cleaning, styling, cooking and skincare routines shown step by step. Keep every claim honest.
  • Language that fits the audience. Urdu, English or a natural mix, sometimes a regional language. Voiceover and on screen captions both help.
  • Raw footage. Some brands want the unedited clips so their own team can cut new versions.

How much do UGC creators charge in Pakistan?

There is no standard rate card for UGC in Pakistan, and prices vary a lot between creators, categories and brands. Rather than quoting numbers that could mislead you, here is the logic most creators use to build a price. Set your own figures, and raise them as your portfolio grows.

Line itemWhat it coversHow to price it
Base videoOne edited video, usually 15 to 60 seconds, with one round of changesYour core price, based on the time to plan, film and edit
Extra hooksDifferent openings for the same video, for ad testingA smaller extra charge per hook
Usage rightsWhere the brand may use the video and for how long: its own posts only, or paid ads tooCharged on top, and higher for paid ads and longer periods
Raw footageThe unedited clipsExtra, because the brand can make new videos from them
Rush and revisionsFaster delivery or more rounds of changesExtra per job or per round
PackagesSeveral videos for one brand each monthA small discount per video in return for steady work
No rupee figures on purpose: UGC prices in Pakistan vary widely and are not tracked anywhere reliable. Treat this as a structure for your own quote.

For comparison, the indicative ranges for reels that creators post on their own accounts are in the influencer rates guide. UGC is priced differently, because you are selling the content and the right to use it, not your audience.

Never give unlimited, permanent use for the price of one video. If a brand wants that, it is a much bigger deal and should be priced like one.

Are there UGC creator jobs with a salary in Pakistan?

For most people UGC is freelance work: you are paid per video or per package, not a monthly salary. Some creators move to a monthly retainer with one or two brands, for example a set number of videos every month, which feels closer to a salary. A smaller number of in house content roles exist at brands and agencies, and a UGC portfolio is a strong way to apply for them.

Because the income comes in deals, run it like a small business and track every job. The influencer earnings guide shows how a month of deals adds up.

How do you build a UGC portfolio with no clients?

  1. 1Settle on two or three categories you can film well at home: skincare, food, gadgets, home and kitchen, fashion.
  2. 2Make spec videos with products you already own. Spec means unpaid sample work made to show what you can do. Never present it as paid work for the brand.
  3. 3Show range. At least one demo, one unboxing, one testimonial, and one video with three different hooks.
  4. 4Get the basics right. Daylight from a window, a simple clip on mic, a clean background, captions on screen and a vertical frame.
  5. 5Add a line under each video: the brief you set yourself, the idea behind the hook, and how long it took to make.
  6. 6Keep it all in one place with your contact details and how you price, the same way a media kit works for influencers.

Where do UGC creators find work in Pakistan?

  • Local brands and online stores. Many sell through Instagram and run ads without a content team. Look at who is advertising in your category and pitch them one sample idea.
  • Marketing and PR agencies. Agencies need a steady supply of content for client campaigns. Send them your portfolio and your usual turnaround time.
  • Campaigns on Wasta. Some briefs care more about the content than the reach. Read what the business asks for and quote your own rate.

Wasta (wasta.pk) is a Karachi based creator collaboration platform for Pakistan: businesses post influencer campaigns, creators with Instagram verified numbers apply at their own rates, and agencies source creators for their clients.

Your creator profile is free, works as a media kit for your portfolio, and Wasta takes no commission. Deliverables, deadline and rate are locked on a deal card that both sides accept. We are starting in Karachi. Creators in other cities can build a profile too, and campaigns open up city by city as businesses join. Create your free profile.

What should a UGC contract cover?

In UGC the rights are the product, so the contract matters even more than for an ordinary post. Agree these in writing before you film:

  1. 1Deliverables. Number of videos, length, format, number of hooks, and whether raw footage is included.
  2. 2Usage. Where the brand may use the content (its own pages, paid ads, website, online marketplaces) and for how long.
  3. 3Ads under your name. Whether the brand may run ads from your account or with your name on them. This needs separate permission and a separate fee.
  4. 4Exclusivity. Whether you can make content for competing brands, and for how long.
  5. 5Revisions. How many rounds of changes are included in the price.
  6. 6Payment. The amount, when it is paid, and whether part is paid before you start.
  7. 7Ownership. Who owns the files, and what happens to them when the usage period ends.

The influencer contract template covers these clauses and can be adapted for UGC work.

Questions people ask

Do I need followers to become a UGC creator?

No. The brand posts the content to its own audience, so your follower count matters far less than the quality of your videos. A strong portfolio is what gets you hired.

Do UGC creators have to show their face?

Not always. Hands only demos, voiceover videos and product close ups are common. Testimonials usually need a face, so being able to do both widens the work you can take.

Who owns a UGC video after the brand pays?

Whatever your contract says. Usually the brand gets the right to use it in agreed places for an agreed period. If full ownership or unlimited use is handed over, charge for it.

Can I find UGC work through Wasta?

You can apply to campaigns whose briefs fit your content and quote your own rate. Agree the usage rights with the business in writing before you film.
