How to get PR packages in Pakistan, even with a small following
By the Wasta team, Karachi · Updated · 7 min read
The short version
A PR package is a free product a brand sends a creator in the hope of a post, usually with nothing fixed in return. To get PR packages in Pakistan as a small creator, keep one clear niche, make your profile work like a media kit, show products well in the content you already post, and pitch local brands directly by DM or email with a short, specific message. Always disclose gifted products, and ask for payment once a brand wants fixed content.
- A PR package is a gift. It becomes a barter deal only when deliverables are agreed.
- Brands look for a clear niche and real engagement, not a huge follower count.
- Start with small local brands, and keep the pitch short.
- Always label gifted content so your audience knows.
- You should never pay anything to receive a PR package.
What is a PR package?
A PR package (PR stands for public relations) is a box of products a brand sends to a creator for free. It might be a new skincare range, a clothing drop before Eid, a box from a home bakery, or a gadget to review. The brand hopes you will try it and share it, but in a pure PR send nothing is promised in return.
That is the key difference from a barter deal. In a barter deal both sides agree what content is made: one reel, three stories, a posting date. A PR package with no agreed deliverables is a gift. The barter collaborations guide explains where the line sits.
Why do brands in Pakistan send PR packages?
- To test creators cheaply. A local brand can send several packages for the cost of one paid reel and see who makes the best content.
- For launches and seasons. New collections before Eid, wedding season and winter, Ramzan hampers and back to school ranges are common reasons to send.
- For honest reviews and fresh content. The brand gets photos and videos of its product used by real people, which it can reshare with your permission.
- To build relationships. Many brands start a creator on PR, then move the ones they like onto paid campaigns.
How do you get PR packages as a small creator?
You do not need a six figure following. Plenty of brands, especially local and home businesses, prefer nano and micro creators, because their audience trusts them and their content feels personal. What a brand checks before it sends:
- 1Your profile. A clear bio that says what you post and which city you are in, a contact email, and highlights that show past work. Treat your profile like a media kit: a brand should understand you in ten seconds.
- 2Niche consistency. If your last twelve posts are about skincare, a skincare brand can picture its product on your page. If they are random, it cannot. Settle on one or two topics and stay with them for a few months.
- 3Content that already looks like a collab. Show products you bought yourself the way a brand would want them shown: good light, clear close ups, an honest opinion. Brands send to creators who have proved they can do it.
- 4Real engagement. Comments and saves from real people matter more than followers. Brands increasingly check for bought followers, so never buy them.
- 5Being easy to find. Put your city and niche in your name field and bio (for example 'Karachi food' or 'Lahore modest fashion'), tag brands in posts about products you genuinely use, and keep message requests open.
- 6Asking. Most small creators wait to be noticed. The ones who get packages usually pitch.
How do you pitch a local brand by DM or email?
Start with brands small enough to read their own messages: home bakeries, local clothing labels, skincare startups, cafes near you. Check their tagged posts to see whether they already work with creators. Then send a short DM or email, under 100 words, and make it about them rather than you. A template you can adapt:
- 1Hi (brand name) team, I am (your name), a (niche) creator in (city). Most of my audience is (who they are).
- 2I have been using your (product) and I really like (one specific thing). My followers often ask me about (related topic).
- 3I would love to try your new (range or product) and share an honest review in a reel and stories.
- 4My recent work and audience numbers are here: (link to your profile or media kit).
- 5Thank you, (your name and contact).
Pitch five to ten brands at a time, follow up once after a week, and keep a simple list of who you contacted and when. No reply is normal. It is not a no forever.
What should you post, and how do you disclose a PR package?
If nothing was agreed, you are not obliged to post. But if you want the brand to send again, posting something genuine is how you show you are worth it.
- An unboxing in stories on the day it arrives, with the brand tagged.
- A real review later, as a reel or post, after you have actually used the product for a while.
- Honesty. If you did not like it, say so kindly, or tell the brand privately and skip the post.
- Clear disclosure. Write 'gifted' or 'PR package' in the caption or on the story. When the deal includes payment, also use Instagram's paid partnership label. Your followers deserve to know, and good brands expect it.
- Share results. Send the brand a screenshot of views and replies. Small brands rarely get this, and they remember who sends it.
When should a PR package become a paid deal?
A gift stops being a gift when the brand starts asking for things. Ask for payment, or product plus a cash fee, when:
- The brand asks for a set number of reels, a script or a fixed posting date.
- The brand wants to run your content as an ad or post it on its own page.
- The brand asks you not to work with its competitors for a while.
- The product's value is small next to the work being asked.
- The brand has sent several packages and is clearly getting results from your content.
Reply politely with your rate, or offer product plus a smaller cash fee. Start from the ranges in the influencer rates guide. If this is your first paid offer, the first brand deal guide walks you through pricing, terms and delivery.
What are the red flags in a PR package offer?
- You are asked to pay. Delivery charges, 'customs fees', a deposit, or buying the product first for a refund later. Real PR packages are free to receive. Never pay to receive one.
- A fake brand account. Check that the account is the real one: how old it is, its posts, its tagged photos, and whether its followers look real. Scammers copy the name and logo of known brands with one letter changed.
- Requests for documents or passwords. No brand needs a copy of your CNIC, your bank details or your Instagram password to send a parcel.
- A starter kit you must buy. If the so called ambassador programme means you buy their product with a discount code, it is a sale, not a collab.
When in doubt, contact the brand through the website or phone number on its official page and ask whether the offer is real.
Can a platform help you get PR and barter deals?
Wasta (wasta.pk) is a Karachi based creator collaboration platform for Pakistan: businesses post influencer campaigns, creators with Instagram verified numbers apply at their own rates, and agencies source creators for their clients.
Barter deals are supported, so a business can post a campaign that pays in product. You see what is on offer before you apply, the deliverables sit on a deal card both sides accept, and the shipment and proof of post are tracked. Your profile is free, works as a media kit, and Wasta takes no commission. We are starting in Karachi. Creators in other cities can build a profile too, and campaigns open up city by city as businesses join. Create your free profile.
Questions people ask
Can I get PR packages with only 1,000 followers?
Yes. Many local brands in Pakistan send to nano creators, especially those with a clear niche and an audience in the same city. Engagement and content quality matter more than the number.
Do I have to post if a brand sends me a PR package?
Only if you agreed to. A package with no agreed deliverables is a gift. Posting something honest is still the best way to be sent the next one.
Should I pay delivery charges for a free PR package?
No. A genuine PR package is free to receive, delivery included. A request for any payment is the most common sign of a scam.
How do I find brands that send PR packages?
Look at the tagged posts of creators in your niche and city, follow local brands you already buy from, and pitch them directly. Barter campaigns on Wasta are another route.
